OKLAHOMA SIDE![]() The earliest school buildings were three wood frame buildings on the current school grounds. This picture shows the first brick structure in Texhoma and was nearly completed for the beginning of the 1910 school year. Classes met in various homes and buildings until completed. It was used for 24 years before it was demolished in 1935. Nearly a mile to the south is a similar Texas side brick school building. Picture postcard owned by Mr. Steve Flanagan

TEXAS SIDE![]() The first school on the Texas side was in the back of a store building the first year and then in a two room frame building on South Second Street. In 1913, this brick school was built directly south of the Oklahoma School on 5th Street. For a number of years they had three year high school but in 1927 Texas side high school students went to the accredited Oklahoma side high school. I've heard that the reason for the move was because the Oklahoma side had a indoor gym. Pictured in Panhandle Pioneers Vol. 4, page 41, 1973, Texhoma Genealogical and Historical Society |
