Texhoma Cemetery

The first cemetery in the Texhoma area was 1 miles East and ½ North on the state line road, on the A.N. Edmonds land, now owned by the State of Oklahoma. Mr. Jesse Brown Riffe donated land for a new, larger cemetery in Sherman County, TX, southwest of town. This new cemetery opened in January 1908, with Section 1 and through the years additional sections were opened. Some of the interments from the first cemetery were moved to the new one, but not all. Early records where poorly kept accounting for many unknown graves.

Four Civil War Veterans are known to be buried in our cemetery: Willis E. McKinney, 1838-1915, Confederate States Army; G.W. Burrows, 1842-1933, Confederate States Army; William R. Mason, 1841-1928, Union Army and Frank B. Moulton, ca.1841-1912, Union Army.

Three Spanish-American War Veterans are known; Trevor Trumain Rea, 1876-1961, William H. Howard, 1879-1956, and G. Conrad Kugle 1880-1942.
Many veterans from subsequent wars are interned in our cemetery.
